Title: Feasibility and preliminary accuracy of high-resolution imaging of the liver and pancreas using FNA compatible microendoscopy
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is one of the few techniques which can obtain cells and tissue from the liver and pancreas. However, the technique remains vulnerable to poor specimen quality and sampling error. Objectives: To evaluate the ability of a high-resolution microendoscope (HRME) to visualize the cellular and architectural features of normal and malignant liver and pancreatic tissue ex vivo. To assess the ability of endosonographers to identify normal and neoplastic tissue using HRME images. To demonstrate preliminary technical feasibility of in vivo HRME imaging via EUS-fine needle puncture

In vivo cytological observation of liver and spleen by using high-resolution microendoscopy system under endoscopic ultrasound guidance: A preliminary study using a swine model
Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is useful to obtain specimens from lesions underlying deep parts of the liver and spleen. However, the development of novel ancillary techniques must be explored to reduce the number of needle passes and potential adverse effects during this procedure. We conducted an animal study using a swine to demonstrate technical feasibility of...
متن کاملBremsstrahlung imaging from the liver using the Monte Carlo simulation
Introduction: Most beta and gamma radiation radioisotopes used for treatment are not suitable for imaging. The bremsstrahlung images on a conventional gamma camera helped to localize the radionuclide within and outside of the lesion. Secondary scattering of gamma rays of higher energy and bremsstrahlung causes contamination in the energy window and reducing the contrast and resolution of the im...

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS High-resolution microendoscopy (HRME) provides real-time visualization of the mucosal surface in the upper aerodigestive tract. This technology allows noninvasive discrimination of benign and neoplastic epithelium and has potential applications for intraoperative margin detection. STUDY DESIGN Single institution, prospective, feasibility trial (phase I) of in vivo optica...

Introduction: The success of radiotherapy cancer treatment delivery depends on the accuracy of patient positioning for each treatment session. A number of kilovoltage x-ray volumetric imaging modalities with an additional source and detector have been developed to allow patient set-up verification based on the internal anatomy, but a significant portion of medical linacs are on...
متن کاملEvaluation of the performance of parallel-hole collimator for high resolution small animal SPECT: A Monte Carlo study
Introduction: Image quality and accuracy of in vivo activity quantification in SPECT are affected by collimator penetration and scatter components, especially in high energy imaging. These phenomena highly depend on the collimator characteristic and photon energy. The presence of penetrated and scattered photons from collimator in SPECT images degrades spatial resolution, contr...
